10/18/18 Third Thursdays @ 33: Ed Smyth + short sets

Absurdist geek comedian Ed Smyth performs at Stage 33 Live on October 18 at 7:00 PM at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, VT. A brain-twisted fabric of odd topics and micro-sketches with no politics and no mean jokes; a brain-twisty, intellect-friendly, one-man vaudeville act for grown-ups with a silly streak.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BELLOWS FALLS, VT — Ed Smyth will weave a bent-mind fabric of brain-twisted topics and micro-sketches as the featured performer of the “3rd Thursdays @ 33” series opener on October 18 at 7:00 PM at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls. He’s an intellect-friendly, upbeat, one-man vaudeville act for grown-ups with a silly streak.

Based in Troy, NY, Ed performs his “Geek Comedy Hour” regularly in coffeehouses, performance spaces, and venues throughout the northeast with bits like Wally the Happy Talking Neutrino, a Neanderthal with a primitive folk-song magic-bit Tom Jones act, a fresh dairy products sea chanty, “Vladimir Lenin Live In Vegas”, kazoo heavy metal, a Bronx gangster movie version of Snow White, warped history, the funk-o-licious pickle song, Micro Fun, and more. No politics, no mean jokes.

The “3rd Thursdays @ 33” series runs October through May at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls. Doors open at 5:00 for a social hour, with short performances and presentations starting at 6:00, followed by a featured performer or presenter at 7:00. At press time there are three open short slots open for local performers; RSVP to stage33@stage33live.com to reserve, first come first served.

All performances and presentations are recorded and filmed for web / radio / TV, and the public is invited to be in the studio audience. Admission is by a suggested $5 donation at the door (Stage 33 Live is a 501c3 nonprofit). Seating capacity is 40.

Stage 33 Live isn’t a bar, club, restaurant, or fancy venue. It’s entirely run by volunteers on a mission to help local and regional talented and knowledgeable people reach wider audiences on multiple platforms; the door is also open to more established performers and presenters. Stage 33 Live allows only original material. More info at www.stage33live.com

“3rd Thursdays @ 33” go like this:

Doors open at 5:00 for a social hour, and we get going at 6:00 sharp with short performances and presentations. Then a wee set-up break, followed by the featured performer or presenter at 7:00. 3rd Thursdays @ 33 There may be an additional second set from time to time.

The public is warmly invited to be in the studio audience for some or all. Admission is by donation; we suggest $5 (or more if you can, but nobody will be turned away for lack of money). All donations help Stage 33 Live keep going and improving.

All performances and presentations are recorded and filmed for web / radio / TV. There’s still open slots for the first-hour mini-sets this month, wanna do one? Drop us a line. First come, first served, space is limited. Any style, any topic — just has to be family-friendly and FCC-safe. And only original material is allowed. People appearing on the stage will need to sign a release; youth require a parental / guardian signature. (UPDATE: Two of the five slots are filled for this month as of 10/4. RSVP ASAP if you’d like one.)

Everyone involved is a volunteer: before, during, and after, offstage and onstage. We hope that will change, but for now our economy is part barter and mostly volunteer. In addition to the media production and distribution that we provide, participants are encouraged to use the documentation however they see fit to promote the thing that they do.
