Eleanor & The Pretty Things with Slow Pony at Stage 33 Live

BELLOWS FALLS — Eleanor & The Pretty Things is a dynamic, atmospheric, emotionally charged alt-indie band from the Boston area known for powerful live performances that range from shimmering to screamo, always tastefully, often within the same song.

The members’ diverse tastes merge to create “music that helps us sort out the great big mess that is life” with lyrics obliquely addressing themes like isolation, detachment, heartache, and anxiety… but not in anger. These are friendly, somewhat geeky people who love effects pedals and aren’t afraid to be heartfelt and awkward.

Slow Pony from Brattleboro will open, an accordion-centric revolving cast of anywhere from one to many, performing deep-sea outer-space music from the far corners of the globe, some of which don’t exist.

This will be louder than most Stage 33 Live shows.

The Saturday, July 30 performance begins at 7:00 PM and will be recorded and filmed. $10 advance donation guarantees up-front seating. Suggested donation of $10+ at the door; no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Capacity is limited.

According to the performer’s preference, masks are encouraged but not required. The performers will not be masked during the performance. If another mask mandate comes down the pike between now and then, that will be the rule.

Seating will be a minimum of eight feet from the stage and set up in pods of two. If you wish to make a custom pod for your party, arrive early to do so. People who have already arrived and have arranged their seating will not be expected to move, and their perimeter should be honored.

Lenny Solomon at Stage 33 Live

BELLOWS FALLS — Singer/songwriter/guitarist Lenny Solomon’s style has been compared to early Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, and Jerry Jeff Walker. In the late ’60s he was a fixture at the fabled Idler Coffeehouse in Harvard Square, Cambridge, a training ground for songwriters like Geoff Bartley, Paul Rishell, Spider John Koerner, Bob McCarthy, and Ric Ocasek. During these years he shared bills with many touring performers including Chris Smither, Carolyn Hester, Bonnie Raitt, and Spider John.

He stepped off the circuit for a couple decades to raise a family and work in environmental research, but kept honing his songwriting chops. He re-entered the performance arena in the late ’90s and has since released five albums and won a dozen songwriting awards.

“Lenny Solomon’s vocals remind me most of John Prine, as does his writing, but there are also elements of the old country and western singers like Merle Travis, Stonewall Jackson, Roy Acuff or Doc Watson.”Soundbyte Magazine

“Solomon has been at this business of words, emotions, stories, and music for a good four decades. His experience shows in how he delivers each song with no more and no less than what each needs. And in the case of Lenny Solomon, each song still has a lot going on inside of it. “Bill Copeland

Steve Hartmann and High Tea at Stage 33 Live

BELLOWS FALLS — Singer-songwriter Steve Hartmann’s electrifying vocals and deft guitar have been described as “the grey” between an acoustic Dave Matthews and Damion Rice. Using effects, looper pedals, and his dynamic voice, his sound and style are unique and readily identifiable. Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional and Twin Forks says, “Steve’s vocals are pristine.” Livingston Taylor states, “I was blown away — speechless.” Born in Dalat, Vietnam, near the end of the Vietnam War, Steve was adopted when he was five months old. Struggling to find a sense of belonging, he found music at the age of 12.

High Tea from Massachusetts delivers a blend of old blues and new pop with soulful harmonies and smoldering guitar riffs — songs ripe with Americana heartbreak and heat, punctuated with tales of growing up, going wild, and always coming back to the ones you love.

Tiffany Williams, Sara Trunzo, and Bethanie Yeakle at Stage 33 Live

BELLOWS FALLS — Nashville-based Tiffany Williams grew up in an Eastern Kentucky coal camp house, the daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of coal miners. Her debut album, All Those Days of Drinking Dust, produced by Grammy-nominated Duane Lundy, is solidly in the New Appalachian Movement that tangles tradition and heritage with contemporary leanings. Her evocative voice rises like the mountains and wanders low and snaky as the creeks of the place she was born and raised.

“There are very few talents in this world like Tiffany Williams. Simple. Period. End of story.” — American Songwriter

“The evening’s biggest revelation was Tiffany Williams, an award-winning short-story writer from East Kentucky’s Letcher County who has made her stories even shorter to fit into terrific songs.” — Paste Magazine

“Tiffany Williams is a powerhouse vocalist, whose vocal prowess is matched by her songwriting.” — Americana Highways

www.tiffanymwilliams.com

Sara Trunzo, brought onto the bill at Tiffany Williams’ request, fits squarely in the Americana realm, bringing genuine, unromanticized aspects of rural living to the forefront. She’s a Folk Alliance International charting singer-songwriter; her album Dirigo Attitude, recorded at the legendary Sound Emporium, featured revered songwriters Darrell Scott and Mary Gauthier. Her third record, Cabin Fever Dream, is out now. Originally hailing from working-class New Jersey, she adopted rural Maine as home, with stints in Nashville.

“An unquestionably talented artist.” — Lonesome Highway

“Pure, crisp voice and straight to the point lyrics.” — The Amp

“Stories of place and persistence.” — Wide Open Country

Bethanie Yeakle is a Brattleboro-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performing artist with a less-is-more approach that’s both powerful and ethereal. A performance alumni of Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, The Guthrie Center, and Club Passim, Bethanie has shared stages with Tune-Yards, Antje Duvekot, Anais Mitchell, Slaid Cleaves, My Morning Jacket, Bill Kirchen, and more. Fun fact: Bethanie was a featured extra in Ang Lee’s major motion picture Taking Woodstock. Bethanie’s sophomore solo album The Space Between was released this year.

10/30/22: POSTPONED Ed Smyth

No joke: Sunday’s comedy is cancelled.

We’ll reschedule Ed Smyth down the road.

The plumbing at the performance space is currently out of commission. It may be fixed by Sunday, it may not.

We don’t think it would be fair to Ed or to you to chance it.

The outgoing pipes have been having problems in fits and starts for a while. We weren’t aware of that until it started having one of those fits a few minutes before our most recent show started… that was kinda embarrassing. Everyone was really sweet and understanding, but still.

So anyway, don’t come on Sunday. Unless you wanna hang out with Mark a bit — he’ll be there from around 2:00 to around 4:00 puttering around just in case anybody didn’t get the news and shows up.

Comedian Ed Smyth serves up a nonstop silly-string of brain-twisty characters and bits — absurd for adults, goofy for kids, clean for your grandma. Maine comedian Jareth Johnson will guest. October 30 in a 3:00 matinee at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls VT. $10 adults, $5 for 18 and younger. Limited seating. The performance will be recorded and filmed. Read the press release.

Ed Smyth, absurdist comedian, at Stage 33 Live

BELLOWS FALLS — Comedian Ed Smyth will serve up a nonstop silly-string of brain-twisty characters and bits — absurd for adults, goofy for kids, clean for your grandma — in a 3:00 matinee on October 30 at Stage 33 Live in Bellows Falls, Vermont.

Ed has been a regular at the Finger Lakes Comedy Festival since 2016, performed a weeklong show at Rochester Fringe, and has appeared at the Maine Comedy Festival. He is a friend to all. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill observational comedy, this is strange but endearing stuff that the world desperately needs… whether the world knows it or not.

Ed will be performing as Bronco Brad hosting “The Dang Tootin’ Good Time Show” that airs from fictional WEXL-TV every Thursday afternoon — a throwback to the TV cowboys of the past, but quirky. There’s a “Science Corner” with a talking neutrino who gives advice about not eating enriched uranium you might find on the sidewalk. Learn how to draw a flying kielbasa in “Art Corner” and memorize the square root of pi with mnemonics in “Math Nook”.

Bronco Brad will perform songs like the “Made Up Tales of the Old West” with a fake guitar, and other segments include “Oog Son of Ahg 30,000 BC”, the just-unfrozen primitive entertainer… “Moe Bot the Comedy Robot” sharing his dating woes with other household appliances… and sponsor moments with local farmer Ted Jorgersen doing his favorite animal impressions.

Audience members are encouraged to show up in cowboy hats, boots, or similar western gear to receive a Bronco Brad deputy sheriff badge and an authentic Bronco Brad Deputy Sheriff Certificate.

Comedian Ed Smyth produces and performs throughout the Northeast, recently appearing at the Maine Comedy Festival, Rochester Fringe Festival, and Finger Lakes Comedy Festival.

Maine comedian Jareth Johnson will guest.

October 30, 2022, a 3:00 matinee at the Stage 33 Live listening room. $10 adults, $5 for 18 and younger. Nobody will be turned away for lack of money. Seating is limited to 40. The event will be recorded and filmed.

BELLOWS FALLS — There will be a special co-headline matinee concert with Americana Act of the Year nominee Jake Swamp and The Pine plus Derek Sensale at Stage 33 Live in Bellows Falls at 3:00 on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

Jake Swamp and The Pine is Drew Zieff: one guy with a beard, a guitar, a voice, foot-stomping percussion, and gumption. His live shows seamlessly ebb and flow between the energy of a full band and the intimacy of a singer-songwriter, with songs ranging from powerful acoustic anthems to knee-slapping hoedowns to slow and somber waltzes.

A New England Music Awards nominee for ‘Americana Act of the Year’ and ‘Roots Act of the Year’, and a Boston Music Awards nominee for ‘Americana Act of The Year’ and ‘Vocalist of The Year’, this show will be a stop on the Jake Swamp and the Pine “Simpson and Banks” album release tour, scheduled just a few days before his performance at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC.

“… strikes to the heart of what Americana music is all about.”MusicBoxPete

Derek Sensale, the driving force behind the well-loved but on-hiatus Brattleboro-based string band Pinedrop, will play original folk songs rooted in tradition and generously dusted with Vermont soil. Since 2019 he’s been keeping a relatively low profile while starting a family, but he kept songwriting and Stage 33 Live is honored to be part of his return to performing.
