9/26/21: Fingerstyle Masterclass with Hiroya Tsukamoto

We have a late-breaking opportunity of special interest to local fingerstyle players of all levels of ability and accomplishment. A hole unexpectedly opened up in Hiroya Tsukamoto’s tour schedule, allowing him to be able to arrive in Bellows Falls early enough to offer an hour-plus masterclass before his matinee concert.

These are the official words:

“Award-winning composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter Hiroya Tsukamoto will demonstrate fingerstyle techniques (playing with the fingers in place of a pick), including chords and basic theory. In this workshop Hiroya will cover how to practice on a daily basis to improve your skills. He breaks down different elements of music such as tone and rhythm and explains how to apply them to a regular daily practice routine.”

Wisdom on scales, thumb placement, tunings, improvisation, and more to help improve and expand your playing… presented with kindness and patience and easy laughter by one of the best fingerstyle players in the world. That doesn’t happen every day.

Class starts at 11:00 AM on Sunday, September 26, and is strictly limited to ten participants. The cost is $30. Advance registration / payment is strongly recommended. If there are still openings on the day, walk-ups will be welcome. This masterclass will take place at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls. Masks and social distancing required.

Bluesman Albert King. Derek Trucks. Jeff Beck. Stanley Jordan. Bonnie Raitt. George Thorogood. Chet Atkins!

Hiroya is currently one of the best in the world’s fingerstyle heap: He took second in the 2018 International Finger Style Guitar Championship. International. That’s a lot of top-notch players.

Born and raised in Japan, Tsukamoto was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. In Boston, he formed the group Interoceanico with musicians from different continents, including Latin Grammy-winning Marta Gomez; that ensemble released three acclaimed records. 10/31/21: Dylan Patrick Ward with Nate Goyette

Dylan Patrick Ward and Nate Goyette are emerging singer-songwriters pinging radars with their writing chops. This 3:00 Halloween-afternoon show at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls VT, is a ground-floor opportunity to catch them on the rise. Suggested $5 donation at the door for Dylan and Nate; limited seating; recorded and filmed. COVID-19 protocol in effect which may change without notice.

Dylan Patrick Ward and Nate Goyette: singer-songwriters on the rise

BELLOWS FALLS — Dylan Patrick Ward is a singer-songwriter from Vermont’s dirty south. His highly specific portraits of loveable losers are as empathetic as they are darkly comical. Influenced by his upbringing in a small, working class town with its fair share of strange characters, Dylan presents life in all of its sad, ugly, hilarious, and hopeful glory.

Nate Goyette’s music doesn’t like to sit still for too long – sometimes raucous and bombastic, other time introspective and subdued, steeped in dead-end jobs, dead-end friends, and those moments you have to grow up (or at least know you’re supposed to).

This is a special 3:00 matinee, October 31 (Halloween) at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls VT. Suggested $5+ donation at the door for Dylan and Nate. COVID-19 protocol in effect which may change without notice.

CD Release Show: Jenna Sawin Rice

BELLOWS FALLS — Singer-songwriter Jenna Sawin Rice grew up in the Connecticut River Valley of Vermont. Her poetic songs celebrate the stories of ordinary people, and the highs and the lows of being alive, delivered with honest, often haunting vocals and down-to-earth playing.

With the release of her sophomore album, Chapters Turn and Bridges Burn, Jenna takes a departure from the full band of her debut recording, this time featuring only the songwriter and her guitar. Written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, this new work looks deeper and explores a more complex new chapter for this emerging artist.

Stage 33 Live is pleased to welcome Jenna back and honored to host this CD release show on Sunday, November 21 at 7:00 PM, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls VT.

Allison Fay Brown opens with her finely honed songs about the inherently messy yet beautiful human experience.
