BELLOWS FALLS — Ken Waldman draws on his 41 years as an Alaska resident to create poems, stories, and fiddle tunes that combine into a performance uniquely his. He’s released 12 CDs of Appalachian-style string-band music — both traditional tunes and his own compositions. along with original poetry… and also 25 books including 17 full-length poetry collections, 3 children’s poetry volumes, 2 memoirs, a creative writing manual, a short story collection, and a novel. He’s been touring full-time since 1995, performing at festivals, concert series, arts centers, colleges, and clubs, including the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Dodge Poetry Festival, and Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland, Australia.

Local musician, poet, and folklore enthusiast Cyd Hughes will join Ken with music bridging the British Isles and Appalachia. Cyd, a former school librarian and longtime student of the story song, will open with traditional ballads and original music exploring the seasons’ cycles with songs of haunted love, shapeshifters, fairy captives, and murder ballads. Cyd has performed locally with the world music group Kestrel, and with her partner John Crockett in the contemplative duo Coracle.
