After 25 years writing about other people’s songs, former longtime Boston Globe music critic Joan Anderman formed her first band, Field Day. Riff-driven songs burst with scrappy hooks, dreamy harmonies, and irrepressible spirit. Like a cross between the melancholy Southern rock of CSNY with the tragic rebelliousness of mid-‘90s pop rock, casual rhythms frame exquisite harmonies punctuated by quotidian guitar bridges. Often with hypnotically repetitive lyrics, vocals exuding an unvarnished beauty are this band’s focal point and greatest asset.
“Hints at some lost collaboration between Juliana Hatfield and Evan Dando… Field Day has a gift for modern rock melodies.” — Boston Herald
