Dan Weber and The Milkhouse Heaters co-headline in Bellows Falls

BELLOWS FALLS — This co-bill was canceled twice by COVID-19… the first time in March 2020, and the second time in March 2021. Third time’s the charm, we’re hoping. Fingers crossed for Sunday, March 6 at 7:00 PM.

Dan Weber won first place in the 2019 Woody Guthrie songwriting contest, and is a rare three-time finalist in Kerrville’s ‘New Folk’ competition. His songs have been described as “reminiscent of early John Prine” and “insightful and awfully funny.” His album What I’m Lookin’ For rose to #2 on the folk charts, and he’s toured extensively across the country.

Weber didn’t start performing in public until he was 40, but immediately began winning over audiences with energetic performances and hilarious stories… he’s been described as “The Classic Mid-Life Overnight Sensation.” He’s also a former National Park Service Ranger, recovering altar boy, Eagle Scout, and lifelong Deadhead.

He’s a three-time invited performer at the Roots on the River festival, and Stage 33 Live is pleased to welcome him to our room.

“I love Dan’s songs and he tells really good stories.” — Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, legendary folk troubadour

“A rare combination of wit, emotion, and vivid, Harry Chapin-esque imagery.” — Rick Foster, The Sun Chronicle

“4 Stars: The touch of a true master craftsman songwriter.” — Alan Cackett, Maverick Magazine

“Weber’s writing is as strong as any in the contemporary folk community.” — Christopher Anderson, The Victory Review

The Milkhouse Heaters are beloved in these parts. In addition to their strong writing and performing chops, they’re a pair of the most ardent supporters of local live music and considerate living to be found anywhere.

Jan and Mike are refugees of the Boston music scene, where they were nominated for a Boston Music Award and shared the stage with The Black Crowes, Corey Glover, Fuel, Feeder, and Hum, and their songs are on compilations alongside the likes of G. Love and Special Sauce, Jack Johnson, Burning Spear, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Their music has been licensed to television shows on ABC, VH1, MTV, ESPN, and ESPN 2.

They moved to southern Vermont in 2003. Mike bought an acoustic guitar and started writing Americana songs. With Jan on bass, they became The Milkhouse Heaters. They’ve opene for Fred Eaglesmith and closed for Billy Bragg, had two songs featured on The Shoulder to the Plough CD, and were repeat invited performers at the Roots on the River Festival.

This co-headline show is on Sunday, March 6, 7:00 PM at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont. The performances will be recorded and filmed. Seating is limited to 40. At the performers’ request, tickets are just $10 both in advance and at the door. Advance tickets double as best-in-house chair reservations.

Seating is limited. Performances are recorded and filmed. No bar or kitchen, the stage is the mission; snacks by donation. BELLOWS FALLS — Multi-instrumentalist duo Dan and Faith return to Stage 33 Live at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont, for an intimate performance on March 27 at 7:00 PM. The husband-and-wife duo are old-school-folk singer-songwriter-storytellers whose writing and delivery have a direct line of descent from the earnest coffeehouse scene of the early ’60s — wholesome, progressive, and friendly, with a sound rooted in tight, interwoven vocal harmonies. Daniel Senie (guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Faith Senie (mandolin, bass, ukulele, dulcimer, vocals) have released five albums… the latest one, Then and Now, hit #7 on the Folk DJ charts.

“Thoughtful poetry and evocative storytelling with sweet harmonies true to their open-mic / coffeehouse / music-in-the-round roots.” Nick Noble, The Folk Revival

Kirsten Manville and Tim Foley in Bellows Falls

BELLOWS FALLS — Kirsten Manville and Tim Foley will co-headline the Stage 33 Live listening room in Bellows Falls. Vermont, on Sunday, April 10 in a 3:00 PM matinee.

Singer/songwriter Kirsten Manville’s latest album, Some People Sing, was a Metronome Magazine top-five album pick, and she was subsequently featured on the cover. Her song “…but Down” was an Alternate Root Magazine top-ten. A blend of Americana, folk, country, and blues, her songs about finding and losing love, hard times, and small pleasures feel like they may have come straight from journal entries.

“With naturally gifted vocal command, Manville explores the intricacies of love, life, and the finer things with a sharp eye on details. Her lyrics are heartfelt and genuine and delivered with just the right amount of instinct and emotion.” — Douglas Sloan, Metronome Magazine

Tim Foley doesn’t settle easily into any box. He lived in New Orleans for a number of years, and his music is heavily influenced by that city’s traditions of experimentation and fusion — gravitating toward blues, jazz, folk, classical, and funk in a variety of tunings and styles ranging from upbeat foot-stompers to melodic soundscapes.

Kirsten and Tim will perform both separately and together. This co-headline listening event is a 3:00 PM matinee on Sunday, April 10 at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Seating is limited to 40. The performances will be recorded and filmed. $10 recommended donation; advance donations through stage33live.com double as chair reservations. Currently the guidance is that masks are optional, although that may change without notice. Respect those who choose to mask, and give them six feet of social distance. Seating will be a minimum of eight feet from the stage and set up in pods of two. If you wish to make a custom pod for your party, arrive early to do so. Fred Gillen Jr in Bellows Falls

BELLOWS FALLS — Fred Gillen Jr will play the Stage 33 Live listening room in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on Sunday, May 8 at 7:00 PM. Carl Beverly opens.

Fred Gillen Jr has released eleven acclaimed albums, shared stages with Merle Haggard, Todd Rundgren, and David Bromberg, and performed everywhere from Patan Durbar Square World Heritage Site in Kathmandu and the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City to places like farmers’ markets and coffeehouses where everyday people gather.

His songs have been featured on ABC and NPR, on CMJ’s New Music Marathon Sampler, and his version of Woody Guthrie’s “I Ain’t Got No Home” was included in “Pete Remembers Woody,” a collection of Pete Seeger’s spoken stories about Woody Guthrie interspersed with renditions of Guthrie’s songs.

Like Seeger and Guthrie, Gillen’s lyrics often reflect both the hope and despair of the human condition, while his music illustrates diverse influences from growing up in the 1970s.

His live performances are spontaneous and full of storytelling, and he enjoys audience participation.

“Gillen is a multi-instrumentalist and a prolific poet with a point of view. His sometimes biting, but not bitter, social commentary goes down easy with softer, agreeable, and memorable melodies.” — Nashville Music News, Janet Goodman

“Uplifting, passionate, and emotional performer.” — Donegal Democrat, Ireland

Carl Beverly from Warner, New Hampshire, opens with his distinctive rhythmic finger-picking style that grooves without straying far from his solid folk grounding. His strong, personal, and relatable writing and easygoing personality have made him a Stage 33 Live favorite. In addition to his solo work, he also plays in the trio Picket Hill.

This listening room show is on Sunday, May 8 at 7:00 PM, at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont. The performance will be recorded and filmed. Seating is limited to 40. Gail’s archaeological career has principally focused on the Middle Connecticut River Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont. She holds a degree in anthropology from Mercyhurst College, where she received significant training in forensic anthropology and zooarchaeology. Working for the New York State Museum, she analyzed human skeletal remains for NAGPRA repatriations, and has extensive archaeological field experience.

Breanna Elaine has been making a splash with her unique sound and songwriting talent: earthy folk with rock, jazz, and occasional punk underpinnings. She’s been favorably compared to Jewel, Alanis Morissette, and Stevie Nicks.

Born and raised in Brattleboro, as a child she played violin and bass and sang in a band that performed at soup kitchens for the homeless. She moved to Northampton in her teens where she played in several bands and sang in a choir that featured African folk music and other explorative genres. At 18 she moved to the Rutland area to care for her grandmother, bringing her lifelong passion for singing and songwriting with her.

This is an opportunity to catch Breanna Elaine in an intimate listening room performance before she graduates from small rooms like ours forever.

6/19/22: co-bill with Violet Bell and The Milkhouse Heaters

Chapel Hill, NC multi-instrumentalist duo Violet Bell co-bill Stage 33 Live with The Milkhouse Heaters on Sunday, June 19 in a 4:00 PM matinee. Limited seating. Special low ticket price: $10 in advance, $15 at the door. 33 Bridge Street, Bellows Falls, Vermont. Read the press release.

Violet Bell with The Milkhouse Heaters in Bellows Falls

BELLOWS FALLS — The Chapel Hill, NC-based multi-instrumentalist duo Violet Bell will co-bill the Stage 33 Live listening room with The Milkhouse Heaters on Sunday, June 19 in a limited-seating 4:00 PM matinee with a special discounted ticket price of $10 in advance through stage33live.com or $15 at the door.

Violet Bell is re-wilding Americana with a lush, sinuous sound woven from folk, soul, bluegrass, and jazz with notes of blues, world, and classical.

Omar Ruiz-Lopez was born in Panama and raised in Puerto Rico, and Lizzy Ross was born and raised in Maryland and NYC — each brings a unique perspective on the traditions and influences that inform the music. Prior to forming Violet Bell in 2016, Lizzy was a two-time Kerrville New Folk finalist and won Floydfest’s On the Rise contest and a Carolina Music Award, while Omar toured with Jonathan Byrd, Crystal Bright, Steph Stewart, and Chocolate Suede, and composed several pieces for the Durham Symphony Orchestra. The combination of Ross’ singer-songwriter strengths, Ruiz-Lopez’s wide range, and their individual and combined muses and passions is a powerful intersection.

They’ve honed a smoldering, magnetic onstage chemistry playing hundreds of shows from Montreal to Miami, and have been featured at festivals across the country including Americanafest, Rooster Walk, Grassroots, Shakori Hills, Ocrafolk, Charleston Bluegrass, Campfire, Beaufort, and more.

In addition to touring, both are passionate about music education for underserved communities, active in several organizations that engage communities of all ages.

“Ross channels the spirit of Eva Cassidy, and Ruiz-Lopez’s violin performance is chocolate… earthy, acoustic music, with some of the best arrangements I have heard on this show… Absolutely gorgeous.” — Michael Johnathon, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour

Jan and Mike Sheehy of The Milkhouse Heaters are refugees of the Boston music scene, where they were nominated for a Boston Music Award and shared the stage with The Black Crowes, Corey Glover, Fuel, Feeder, and Hum, and their songs are on compilations alongside the likes of G. Love and Special Sauce, Jack Johnson, Burning Spear, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Their music has been licensed to television shows on ABC, VH1, MTV, ESPN, and ESPN 2.

They moved to southern Vermont in 2003, rolled Americana into their punk roots, and became The Milkhouse Heaters. They’ve opened for Fred Eaglesmith and closed for Billy Bragg, had two songs featured on The Shoulder to the Plough CD, and were repeat invited performers at the Roots on the River Festival.

They’re beloved not just for their strong writing and performing chops — they’re also ardent supporters of local music and activists-by-example for considered, considerate living.

This is a limited-seating listening room show on Sunday, June 19 at 4:00 PM, at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont, and through a special arrangement with the performers the tickets are just $10 in advance, or $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available through stage33live.com and double as best-in-house chair reservations. The performance will be recorded and filmed.

In addition to it being Father’s Day, it’s also Bellows Falls Alumni Weekend — there will be a small-town parade featuring floats designed, built, and populated by Bellows Falls Union High School graduating classes through the years running right through downtown, a couple blocks from Stage 33 Live’s front door. Cars won’t be allowed through downtown from around 1:00 to sometime before 3:00… concert attendees may arrive early and enjoy the parade, or plan to arrive after 3:00.

The COVID-19 protocol in the room will be the community guidelines in effect on show day. Currently the guidance is that masks are optional, although that may change without notice. Respect those who choose to mask. Seating will be a minimum of eight feet from the stage and set up in pods. Those who wish to make a custom pod for their party may. BELLOWS FALLS — Wojcicki [‘Voy-CHEECH-key’] will celebrate the release of their second album, “Failure to Illuminate”, with a concert at the Stage 33 Live listening room in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on Saturday, July 2 at 7:00 PM, with very special guests Só Sol. Sharff began performing in his teens with bands in his native New York City at venues like CBGB, Max’s Kansas City, Brownies, Mercury Lounge, and The Fort. BELLOWS FALLS — Josh Maiocco will play the Stage 33 Live listening room at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on Sunday, July 17 at 7:00 PM. Ezra Veitch will open and side. Limited seating. The event will be recorded and filmed.

In 2018, Josh Maiocco showed up at a Stage 33 Live open mic and stunned everyone there with outstanding songs performed brilliantly. Since then he’s played the room as an opener and a side-person; this is his first headline on the 33 Bridge Street stage.

Josh is as talented of a writer and player as he is under-recognized. It’s possible he likes it that way — below the radar and enigmatic. It’s known that in younger days he played quite a bit in New Jersey and New York City. He has a lingering MySpace page that was clearly forgotten about long ago. He’s not from around here originally, but since arriving about two decades ago he’s played in highly regarded and stylistically diverse bands like Ingrid’s Ruse, Ninja Monkey, 84 Sheepdog, and the Ben Carr Music Project, in addition to occasional solo shows.

Josh has enlisted his friend and frequent co-conspirator, Ezra Veitch, to open and side for him. Ezra is well known for his music and his tireless support of the local music scene, as well as his graphic art.

This performance will be on Sunday, July 17, 7:00 PM, at Stage 33 Live, 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Seating is limited to 40. $5 suggested donation; advance donations though stage33live.com double as chair reservations. The event will be recorded and filmed.
